Performance Enthusiasts Take Note: Propane Tuner Car Goes 206 MPH
You don’t hear nearly as much about propane as other alternative fuels in the U.S. these days, although it’s quite popular in markets outside the U.S. In fact, this alternative fuel is being increasingly championed not only by a growing number of fleets, but performance interests as well.
An example is provided by German tuner G-Power, which created the world’s fastest car running on propane. Its G-Power M5 Hurricane GS recently set this world record at 206 mph (333 km/hr). This record holding BMW M5 sedan’s V-10 engine was upgraded with two ASA radial compressor superchargers, one each for the two cylinder banks. The result is 660 horsepower and 479 lb-ft torque that allows the two-ton sedan to reach 62 mph in 4.6 seconds and 124 mph in just 11.4 seconds.
G-Power markets this supercharger for the V-10 engine used in the BMW M5 and M6. This impressive performance demonstrates that supercar performance can be achieved with a less expensive and cleaner alternative fuel.
