2012 Cadillac SRX Will Feature 300-hp V-6 As Only Engine
Apple, Blackberry, Bluetooth… the tech industry seems hungry—or at least fixated on its mouth. The car industry is certainly hungry for tech, and that’s why, for 2012, the Cadillac SRX will have Bluetooth standard on all trims. Additionally, it will get a heated steering wheel on all but the base models.
To celebrate the arrival of standard Bluetooth, Cadillac is installing a new engine in the 2012 SRX, a 300-hp, 260-lb-ft direct injected 3.6-liter V-6. You may remember this engine from such GM products as the Chevrolet Camaro and the Cadillac CTS. In the SRX, its output shrinks by four horsepower and eight pound-feet, due to some tweaks to the induction system. It will be the only engine available to U.S. SRX customers—a change we are very happy to see. The former base six, a 3.0-liter V-6, was overmatched by the SRX’s 4500 pounds. That problem was addressed with the optional Saab-sourced turbocharged 2.8-liter six. but that powerplant brought with it nauseatingly nonlinear power delivery. Cadillac whacked it in January.
The auto industry might be hungry for tech, but we’re hungry for power. We’re very happy to see Cadillac addressing that need, and, more importantly, fitting appropriate engines into its products. Pricing has yet to be announced for the 2012 SRX; the current 3.0-liter V-6-powered SRX starts at $35,305, while the remaining 2.8T models sticker for $50,090. We expect the price of the new 3.6-liter SRX to land much closer to the bottom end of that range, but official numbers won’t be released until closer to the car’s launch late this summer. At least the Bluetooth will be free.
